It is that time of year again, yes, the Richland County fair was here again (September 3rd
– 7th ). That meant that the Pine Valley Repeater Amateur Radio Club ARES/RACES was in
attendance again with our coms trailer and equipment. Many club members were out to talk,
demonstrate, play radio, and of course eat good fair food.

We demonstrated analog repeaters, D-Star digital, HF, meshtastic, and more. We were
located next to the DNR Building in the front of the fairgrounds. We made contacts all over
with D-Star and a few with HF. Meshtastic which is a form of texting was able to be used
covering almost the whole fairgrounds.

We had some visitors who showed some interest in Amateur Radio for various reasons.
We even had a few students who were able to talk on D-Star to northern Wisconsin and to the
east coast. They seemed fascinated.

Despite the cool weather there were some great things happening at the Richland County
Fair. Who knows what will be Happening at next year’s County Fair? You just never know what
you will see or hear.
