Long Island West Activation

On SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 2013 Long Island (west), also in the Wisconsin River near Lone Rock, has been qualified by the same two ham radio clubs. Long Island (West) now has the designation WI051R. It is interesting to note that Ralph, KC9LBO, made a contact in Cuba and Cayman Island for our 2 countries requirement. Operators on Long Island were: Les Hyland – KA9USV; Bob Naegele – W9MZ; Dick Neumann – W9JR; Phil Wallace – KC9QQQ; Josh Roskos – KC9WWH; Ralph Hendrickson – KC9LBO; and Tahmara Hendrickson – KC9UJM.

There is another island in the Wisconsin River, Long Island (east) near Spring Green that will be qualified on September 27, 2014. Currently, the island has the number WI050. As soon as it is qualified, an R will be added indicating it is an island in a river.

Richland County Fair 2013

It was a great weekend for the annual Richland County fair. The Pine Valley Repeater ARC set up our EMCOMM trailer and equipment in a prime location for people to visit our site and to learn more about Amateur Radio.

Many people stopped to chat with PVR members who were on hand to meet and greet them, and to give answers to many very interesting questions.

PVR will be sponsoring an entry level Technician license class in October, and several visitors expressed an interest in becoming a member of the class which will be taught by Bob Naegele, W9MZ. We hope they will follow through on their interest.

Following are a few photos of our setup at the Fair:
